As a teenager in 1992 I was on a promise with a French student. I knocked back her offer of a date to go watch West ham lose to Sunderland 2-3 in the fa Cup. I never did see her again.

This game sticks in the mind. Mikita cup vs panathinaikos. Watching it on TV as a kid and a girl I really fancied knocked on the door and asked if I wanted to play out. Said no, it’s gone to penalties and shut the door on her.
